U73M: Mono Channel Tube Compressor
Compressors are an essential part of any audio production process. From fixing a great vocal performance that has wild swings in volume to bringing a final mix together so that it is broadcast ready, compressors have been used since the beginning of broadcast to smooth out the curves created by performers actually performing during a recording session rather than being a slave to the placement of a microphone. The historic U73 compressor was legendary for its quick response and smooth sound. Almost every record made in Europe from the time that this unit was first introduced up into the early 1980's was mastered through a pair of these units.
Our U73M will be a mono version in a 2-rack space unit. The increased size will be necessary for the number of tubes as well as the metering that we feel is necessary for this unit. The circuit design will be made on the same platform as our upcoming V76M unit. We already have prototypes of this unit in the field and we are collecting feedback and data from the engineers on the performance of these units. Our goal is to have the production prototype at the AES show in New York City. Stay tuned for more updates!
